March is Women’s History Month!

14 Mar

Only an official celebration since 1981, when Congress established “Women’s History Week”, it would take another 6 years until the entire month of March was dedicated to Women’s History. The themes for 2012 Women’s History Month are Women’s Education and Women’s Empowerment. Did you know that women were not allowed to attend college until 1833 when Oberlin was chartered. At the time, men had been enjoying access to university education for almost 200 years before that (1636). Today nearly half of all college students in the United States are women.
